Pontoon & tritoon buying guide
Compare layouts, engines and equipment for the way you spend time on the lake.
Start with the way you boat.
Cruising & entertaining
Compare comfortable seating, shade, table space and storage. Walk from the boarding gate to the helm and swim ladder to see how the layout works with your usual crew.
Fishing & family time
Look at fishing seats, rod storage and room to move around your gear. Decide how much open fishing space you need alongside the lounge seating your family will use.
More active lake days
Discuss your passenger load and plans for towing with our team. Compare the tube configuration, engine and approved equipment on the exact boat you are considering.
A few questions make comparing easier.
Pontoon or tritoon: what should I compare?
A conventional pontoon has two main tubes; a tritoon has three. Compare the complete design, rated capacity, engine and intended use. Ask how the specific package fits your lake and usual passenger load.
How much horsepower do I need?
Start with the boat’s approved engine range, your normal load and how you want to use it. Discuss acceleration, cruising and towing needs rather than choosing from horsepower alone.
Is the trailer included?
Check the individual listing and written quote. Confirm the engine, trailer, cover, electronics and other equipment included in the exact package.
Should I shop new or used?
New boats let you compare current options and applicable factory coverage. With a used boat, review condition, equipment, maintenance information and any remaining warranty. Compare the complete package and your ownership plans.
Can I see the boat at my nearest location?
Confirm the boat’s location and availability with our team before traveling. We have locations in Fargo, Detroit Lakes and the Brainerd area, plus McLaughlin’s Landing on Big Cormorant Lake.
