Canadian boat & RV buying questions

Answers to check before you buy, cross the border or arrange pickup.

Can every new model be sold to a Canadian buyer?

Manufacturer territory restrictions can apply. Ask our team to confirm the exact model and your location before planning a purchase.

Does importing the boat also cover its trailer?

Treat them as separate items in your planning. CBSA says to declare a purchased boat trailer along with the boat. Check vehicle import requirements for the trailer as well.

Are taxes, duties or refunds included in the advertised price?

Ask for a written quote showing what the dealership collects. Confirm Canadian taxes, duties and any potential refund or exemption directly with the relevant authority; do not assume it applies to your purchase.

Can I arrange pickup before all documents are ready?

Discuss document availability, payment clearance and your import requirements with our team before fixing a pickup date. Having the right paperwork ready helps you plan the trip.

Send us the listing and your province. We can help you clarify the dealership side of your purchase.

A boat and its trailer need separate attention.

Boats & pontoons

CBSA requires Canadian residents to declare an imported pleasure boat on arrival. At a land crossing, have the bill of sale and proof of ownership ready. If you purchased a boat trailer, declare it as well.

Review the current border instructions before your trip, including the guidance for towing watercraft across the border.

Boat trailers, travel trailers & RVs

Confirm the vehicle import requirements for the exact trailer or RV with Transport Canada and the Registrar of Imported Vehicles. Eligibility, recall information, modifications and inspection requirements can affect the process.

Check these requirements before buying, even when the trailer is part of a boat package.

Your document planning checklist.

Confirm the exact requirements with the relevant authorities and our team before pickup. The documents depend on what you are buying and whether it is new or used.

  • Itemized purchase agreement or bill of sale identifying each unit.
  • Applicable proof of ownership, title, registration or manufacturer’s statement of origin.
  • Recall or compliance documents when required for the trailer or RV.
  • Any required import forms and border instructions for your purchase.
  • Insurance and any temporary transport or permit arrangements.
  • A plan for provincial registration or pleasure craft licensing, as applicable.

Ask when each dealership document will be available so you can coordinate your travel plans.
